In short
The Archaeology Society Zug has been founded in 1928 and provides history enthusiasts of all ages with a diverse array of excursions, lectures on the archaeological research and family days. With over 500 members, it also enjoys a certain influence in society and politics, aiming to promote the public’s interest in the archaeological heritage and historical monuments in the canton of Zug.
Objectives
The Archaeology Society has three objectives:
- Promoting the public’s interest in cantonal archaeology and historical monuments.
- Securing the access to recent archaeological discoveries in the canton of Zug for the general public.
- Supporting the Museum of Prehistory and the Office of the Preservation of Ancient Monuments and Archaeology with their activities.
Activities
The Archaeology Society Zug offers its members a range of events throughout the year:
- Family days: The perfect opportunity to experience an exciting archaeological topic first-hand.
- Talks: Experts from Switzerland and abroad present their archaeological research.
- Guided Tours: Enjoy a unique experience in museums or on excavation sites.
- Day Trips: In only a couple of hours, participants of these trips can marvel at a number of various archaeological artefacts.
- Excursions: Every two years, the Archaeology Society organises a trip to a neighbouring country and its ground monuments, excavation sites, exhibitions or museums.
- General Assembly: The most recent archaeological finds in the canton of Zug are presented to the members.
